I teach wedding couples their first dances for many years and if it happened that you just said the magical "yes" to each other, have a look at some useful tips about preparations to your Big Day :)
1. Put the dance on your schedule. The moment you start to plan your wedding decide if you want to perform your first dance. If the answer is "yes" put the dance on your wedding checklist together with the dress, suit, venue, music and a wedding cake. 2. Budget:
3. Find the right instructor. Make sure you choose a person who has experience with teaching wedding couples. Do some research, check their websites. Write an email with all your questions plenty in advance of your wedding as good instructors will be very busy in the wedding season. 4. Music – song. Choose a meaningful song that brings good memories for both of you. It's always safe to have 2-3 songs to choose from in case you are not sure if you can dance what you wish to them.
5. Keep it simple. Simple and elegant slow waltz or a Viennese waltz is beautiful and perfect for a wedding day. If you want to dance on your wedding, but you're not a performer - keep it simple. It's easier to stay confident and calm when you don't have to think about a complicated choreography, because your body remembers everything. 6.Practice, practice and more practice! Practice makes perfect! Your teacher will probably tell you this a hundred times. Please practice! Spending a fortune on courses and private classes won't help if this will be the only time you dance together. 5 minutes every day is better than 1 hour once a month. 7. Tips for practicing:
8. On the big day:
I hope it helps you to not stress about the dance. Do not hesitate to ask me questions - write an email to info@ewatreladans.no. All the best on your new path together!

My name is Ewa Trela, I’m Polish and I live in Norway. This blog will be mainly about dancing and the everyday life of a dance teacher with some sprinkles of family life, travels and hobbies.
So: if your first question is: “is it even possible to make a living out of dancing in Norway?!” My answer is “YES” and I have a big grin on my face writing this 😊. I’ll make a separate post about how this whole “dancing business” started but one thing is a fact: I have a dance school and being a dance teacher is my 100% vocation. I’m a mum of a fantastic little girl named Emma and a bonus-mum of another fantastic girl named Ellie. I’m also a lucky girlfriend – his name is Martin and he’s my love and my soulmate. In short words we are a patchwork family of four individuals with a mix of Polish, British and Swedish blood, living in Oslo. And no, we are not perfect, but we try really hard to be a team, have fun and enjoy life. I hope you’ll find some of my posts inspiring, useful, funny or just entertaining. Hugs, Ewa My Skal Vi Danse adventure ended early this year (thank you for your support!!!) and I'm ready to offer you more classes in the new upcoming semester from October 22nd. I'll continue with Dominican BACHATA on 3 levels: beginners, improvers and intermediate and I'm excited about starting SALSA beginners on Tuesdays. Remember that you don't need a partner and you don't need ANY previous knowledge for the beginners classes. For all of you who are hungry for more challenges I will be offering BACHATA FOOTWORK and LADIES STYLING classes every other Wednesday. Thanks to your feedback about our social dancing, we will now have social dance/practice every other Wednesday instead of Tuesday. You can still expect small groups (max 20 ppl per course), an individual approach, high quality teaching and of course loads of my lovely sense of humour ;) I hope to see ALL "old" faces ;) and a lot of new ones, so PLEASE share this with your friends and family and spread the word so we have more nice people to dance with :) All classes take place in Vulkan Depot, Maridalsveien 15. Love, Ewa |
